The Monday Morning Agent

Five definitions of the tush push, clause by clause.

Every fan's definition is a few clauses, and six clauses come up. The data has a column for four of them. It has no column at all for who pushed, or for where anyone lined up. A definition the tool can apply is one whose every clause has a column.

Two of the four take one step. Who carried means the primary passer, the quarterback as the data can see him, since the file has no position column. Under center means the shotgun column at 0, the only formation detail in the 31 columns.

✓ a column the clause can use. ✗ no column for it, so the tool cannot apply the definition. A row with no cross is one the tool can measure; the explorer can build the fourth and the fifth.

The vote, and the entry

In May 2025 the NFL voted on a proposal to ban the play. It got 22 votes to 10. A rule change needs 24, so the ban failed. No ban was proposed for 2026, so the play is legal this season.

The agent writes the second definition. It is the closest the 31 columns come to what fans mean, and its last line says what it cannot see: who pushed. That definition is page one of the dictionary. Every later ruling that measures the play has to use it and cite it, and a different definition has to be a new entry with a new name. After the episode airs, the explorer page lets you change the definition yourself and watch the answer move.
